2 men charged in Albany, NY shots fired incident

ALBANY, NY — Two men have been charged in connection with a shots fired incident that occurred Tuesday afternoon on Lark Drive near Manning Boulevard.

Benjamin Velazquez, 19, of Philadelphia, and Christian Keith, 18, of Troy, were arrested after allegedly firing a handgun at an occupied vehicle before fleeing the scene.

On Tuesday, March 11, around 1:45 p.m., officers responded to Lark Drive near Manning Boulevard for reports of shots fired.

Upon arrival, officers discovered evidence consistent with gunfire and began an investigation.

Shortly afterward, Albany detectives observed the vehicle used by the suspects to flee and conducted a traffic stop in the area of Sheridan Avenue and Chapel Street.

Velazquez and Keith were taken into custody without incident.

Through the investigation, detectives determined that Velazquez was the driver of the vehicle, while Keith was responsible for firing the handgun.

No injuries were reported during this incident.

Keith has been charged with one count of Attempted Murder 2nd and one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd.

He was arraigned this morning in Albany City Criminal Court and remanded to the Albany County Jail with bail set at $75,000.

Velazquez has been charged with one count of Criminal Facilitation 2nd and one count of Tampering with Physical Evidence.

He was arraigned this morning in Albany City Criminal Court and released under the supervision of Probation.
