YONKERS — A 23-year-old Yonkers man has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly shooting two men following a verbal altercation on Walnut Street last week.
Keymel Washington surrendered to police on Monday after being identified as the suspect in the March 4 shooting that left two men with serious injuries.
The incident occurred at approximately 3:35 p.m. outside 326 Walnut Street, where officers found a 39-year-old male with a gunshot wound to his torso.
A second victim, a 31-year-old male who suffered a gunshot wound to his face, was privately transported to a local hospital before being transferred to a trauma center.
According to police, the shooting followed a brief verbal altercation between the victims and other uninvolved parties.
Investigators say Washington produced a handgun and fired two shots before fleeing on foot toward Elm Street.
Washington faces two counts of attempted murder in the second degree, one count of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, and two counts of reckless endangerment in the first degree.
Bail was set at $50,000 cash or $100,000 bond during his arraignment in Yonkers City Court.
In response to recent incidents, the Yonkers Police Department has increased motor and foot patrols in targeted areas of the city.
