BOSTON — Officers from the Boston Police Department arrested a 34-year-old Dorchester man on multiple charges including cocaine trafficking following a car crash in South Boston Monday evening.
Andre Dos Santos was taken into custody after officers responded to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of M Street and East First Street at approximately 5:21 p.m. on March 10.
Upon arrival, officers observed Boston Fire Department personnel at the scene and spoke with the driver of a Mazda, who reported being struck by a Chevy.
When officers attempted to speak with Dos Santos, the operator of the Chevy, he allegedly became aggressive and began yelling, causing a disturbance that drew a crowd.
Officers detected an odor of alcohol on Dos Santos’ breath and observed signs of intoxication, including glassy eyes and slurred speech, according to police.
During a search following his arrest, officers recovered a plastic bag from Dos Santos’ front right jeans pocket containing 18 smaller bags of a white powdery substance believed to be cocaine.
Officers also located a small white vial containing a plastic bag of a white powdery substance believed to be cocaine on a passenger inside Dos Santos’ vehicle.
An undisclosed amount of U.S. currency in various denominations was also recovered from Dos Santos’ person.
Dos Santos is expected to be arraigned in South Boston District Court on charges of OUI liquor, trafficking cocaine (18-36 grams), and disorderly conduct.
The passenger in Dos Santos’ vehicle was issued a summons to appear in South Boston District Court for possession of a Class B substance (cocaine).
