WARWICK — A school bus carrying nine students overturned Monday morning on Pulaski Highway, resulting in minor injuries to all passengers and two adults on board.
The Town of Warwick Police Department responded to the scene at approximately 7:53 a.m. along with Pine Island EMS and fire departments from Pine Island and Florida.
First responders found the West Point Tours bus on its side with all occupants having self-extricated from the vehicle.
The nine students, ranging in age from 6 to 12 years old, along with the driver and bus monitor, appeared to have sustained minor injuries.
Five students and the bus monitor were transported to Garnett Health Medical Center in Middletown, while the remaining four students and the bus driver were taken to St. Anthony Community Hospital in Warwick with non-life-threatening injuries.
The bus was traveling from Newburgh to the BOCES campus in Pine Island when the accident occurred.
Multiple agencies assisted at the scene, including the Town of Goshen Police Department, Orange County Sheriff’s Office, and New York State Police, who helped with the investigation, traffic control, and family reunification at the hospitals.
Ambulance services from Warwick, Goshen, Lenape, and Empress supported Pine Island EMS in treating and transporting the injured.
The roadway, which had been closed to accommodate emergency vehicles, reopened by 10 a.m.
The Town of Warwick Detective Unit and the New York State Department of Transportation are continuing the investigation, which initially indicates the bus left the road for unknown reasons before going into an embankment and rolling onto its side.
