BOSTON — Officers arrested a 19-year-old Chelsea man on firearm charges Monday after recovering a loaded handgun and knives during a stop near East Boston High School.
Hamilton Navarro was taken into custody at approximately 1:35 p.m. at Putnam Square Park as part of an ongoing effort to address youth violence in the area.
Officers patrolling near the high school observed three individuals dressed in black, two wearing masks, sitting on a bench inside the park.
During a pat-frisk, officers recovered two large knives from two juvenile males and a pink and black Walther P22 .22 caliber firearm from a bag carried by Navarro.
The firearm was loaded with six .22 LR caliber rounds in the magazine.
Navarro faces charges of carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, and unlawful possession of ammunition.
The two juvenile males were issued summonses to Chelsea District Court for carrying a dangerous weapon.
