Holyoke police seize illegal guns, drugs in Elm Street raid

HOLYOKE — Holyoke police officers recovered two loaded firearms, crack-cocaine and heroin while arresting three suspects Sunday night in what officials described as an effort to improve quality of life in the Elm Street area.

Officers responded to an apartment building at 173 Elm Street around 9:15 p.m. to remove several individuals who were trespassing, according to Holyoke Police Chief Brian Keenan.

When officers reached the second floor, four subjects attempted to flee the scene.

Lt. Jorge Monsalve located Sarah McLaughlin, 43, of Greenfield, hiding in an apartment and Officer Justice Gonzalez arrested her on an outstanding warrant.

As three men ran down the stairs, officers observed Emmanuel Rivera toss an object that was later determined to be a loaded firearm.

Officer Nigel Astwood and Officer Gabriel Irizarry detained Nelson Ramos, 32, of Springfield, and arrested him for resisting and trespassing.

Lt. Monsalve and Officer Jorge Soto detained Eugenio Rivera-Narvaez, 38, of Springfield, recovering a large capacity firearm loaded with 16 rounds of ammunition, 91 vials of crack-cocaine, more than eight grams of heroin/fentanyl, as well as Clonazepam and Gabapentin.

Officers also detained Emmanuel Rivera, 36, of West Springfield, and recovered 27 vials of crack-cocaine and the firearm he allegedly discarded while fleeing.

Rivera faces multiple charges including possession with intent to distribute a Class B drug, carrying a firearm without a license, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

Rivera-Narvaez is charged with numerous offenses including possession with intent to distribute Class A and B drugs, possession of a large capacity firearm, and carrying a loaded firearm without a license.

Ramos is charged with trespassing and resisting arrest, while McLaughlin was arrested on an outstanding warrant.
