BABYLON — A Bethpage man driving a black Lincoln with only three tires was arrested after nearly striking a New York State Police investigator and leading troopers on a pursuit near a road closure on March 8.

The incident occurred at approximately 8:05 p.m. on the Southern State Parkway westbound, east of Exit 37 in the Town of Babylon.

Kenneth A. Salgado, 31, was observed speeding recklessly past Department of Transportation barricades where state troopers and investigators were working on an unrelated incident.

A state trooper initiated pursuit after Salgado’s vehicle narrowly missed hitting an investigator from the Collision Reconstruction Unit.

Despite multiple commands to stop, Salgado continued driving until his vehicle eventually came to a halt.

Troopers determined Salgado was likely under the influence of alcohol, but he refused to submit to a breath test.

Salgado was charged with first-degree driving while intoxicated, first-degree reckless endangerment, resisting arrest, unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, and numerous vehicle and traffic law violations.

He was transported to the Suffolk County 3rd Precinct and held for arraignment on March 9.
