ROCKINGHAM — A Connecticut man escaped injury after his truck left Interstate 91 and struck a tree Sunday afternoon, according to Vermont State Police.

Troopers from the Westminster Barracks responded to the single-vehicle crash at approximately 1:53 p.m. near mile marker 36.2 on I-91 southbound.

Denis J. Pepin, 74, of Southington, Connecticut, was driving a 2015 GMC Sierra when he drove off the roadway due to inattention or distraction, investigators said.

The truck sustained totaling damage after striking the tree, but neither Pepin nor his passenger was injured in the crash.

Road conditions were dry at the time of the incident, and Pepin was wearing his seatbelt, police reported.

Rockingham Fire Department and Golden Cross Ambulance assisted state police at the scene.

R&K Towing removed the vehicle from the crash site.
