CHICOPEE — A vehicle belonging to a missing Connecticut man was pulled from the Connecticut River Sunday night, but the search for the driver continues.
WESTCOMM Regional Dispatch received a 911 call at approximately 12:30 a.m. on March 9 reporting a male in the Connecticut River off Walter Street.
Responding officers were unable to locate anyone in the river and deployed the department’s Drone Unit and Under Water Response Team (URT).
After several hours, the initial search was ended.
Officers and detectives returned to the scene at approximately 10:30 a.m. and discovered evidence of a possible car crash at the end of Walter Street.
Detectives found evidence suggesting a vehicle may have driven into the river.
The Chicopee URT, assisted by the Massachusetts State Police Dive Team, located a vehicle in the river.
At approximately 7 p.m., the vehicle was removed from the river but was unoccupied.
The license plate on the vehicle matches that of Daniel Callahan, who was reported missing earlier Sunday in East Windsor, Conn.
Authorities cannot confirm if Callahan was operating the vehicle when it entered the river.
The search for the operator continues with assistance from Massachusetts State Police.
The investigation remains open and is being conducted by the Chicopee Police Crash Reconstruction Team, Hampden County District Attorney’s Office, Massachusetts State Police and the East Windsor Police Department.
