ROCKLAND — Rockland police arrested an 18-year-old man and charged a juvenile in connection with the theft of approximately $40,000 from a vehicle on Feb. 19.

Zachary Gilbert of Rockland was arrested on March 7 on charges of felony theft and violation of conditions of release, according to police.

At the time of his arrest, Gilbert was out on five sets of conditions of release from prior criminal charges.

Police said one juvenile has also been charged with felony theft, and charges are pending against four more juvenile suspects.

Authorities believe the victim was targeted due to the large amount of unsecured money in the vehicle.

During the investigation, Rockland police detectives conducted numerous interviews and executed search warrants on residences and hotels in Thomaston, Warren, and Owls Head.

The Rockland Police Department acknowledged assistance from the Thomaston Police and the Knox County Sheriff’s Office with the search warrants.

The investigation remains ongoing.
