Man charged with elder abuse at Cortland medical center

CORTLAND — A 48-year-old Cortlandville man was arrested Wednesday on felony charges after allegedly abusing an elderly person at a local medical center.

Robert J. Morris of Penguin Drive was charged with endangering the welfare of an incompetent or physically disabled person, a felony, and harassment, a violation.

Officers from the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office responded to Guthrie Cortland Medical Center at 134 Homer Avenue at 5:58 p.m. following a report of elder abuse.

The investigation revealed that Morris had subjected an elderly victim, who was known to him, to physical abuse, according to the sheriff’s office.

Morris was processed at the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office and arraigned through the Centralized Arraignment Process at 8 p.m.

He was released on his own recognizance and is scheduled to appear in Cortlandville Town Court on March 12 at 11 a.m.
