GUILFORD — A 60-year-old Guilford man was arrested March 10 on multiple sexual assault charges following an investigation that began last year, police said.

John Degennaro of 201 Church St. faces three counts of sexual assault in the second degree and one count of risk of injury to a minor, according to the Guilford Police Department.

The investigation began in February 2024 after a referral from the Department of Children and Families.

Police said Degennaro allegedly met the juvenile victim through a social media platform and transported the minor to Guilford for two overnight stays in February 2024.

During these visits, authorities allege Degennaro engaged in sexual activity with the juvenile.

Degennaro was released on a $150,000 court-set bond pending further legal proceedings.

This arrest follows an initial apprehension in March 2024 connected to the same investigation.

The Guilford Police Department has been working closely with the Guilford School System to ensure student safety, including maintaining a School Resource Officer at a nearby school.

Authorities encourage parents to educate their children about online safety risks and to monitor their devices regularly.

The police department hosts biannual Internet Safety for Parents presentations at the Guilford Community Center, with upcoming dates to be announced on their Facebook page.

Multiple agencies collaborated on the investigation, including the Ansonia/Milford State’s Attorney’s Office, New Haven State’s Attorney’s Office, and the Department of Children and Families.
