MERRICK — A Central Islip man has been arrested in connection with a series of thefts from gym lockers and vehicles across Nassau County, police announced Thursday.
Devon D. Barrett, 33, faces eight counts of grand larceny in the fourth degree, seven counts of identity theft in the second degree and two counts of petit larceny.
According to detectives, Barrett allegedly entered nine unlocked gym lockers at various fitness centers between Feb. 14 and Feb. 25, stealing car keys that he then used to access victims’ vehicles.
Police say Barrett took various items from the vehicles and in seven incidents used or attempted to use victims’ credit cards at nearby locations.
The thefts occurred at multiple fitness centers including Planet Fitness locations in Merrick, Plainview and Massapequa, Blink Fitness in Baldwin, and L.A. Fitness in New Hyde Park.
Barrett was arrested without incident at 7:50 p.m. on March 5 in Brentwood.
Nassau County’s Seventh Squad detectives are asking anyone who believes they may have been victimized to contact them at 516-573-6754.
