Father arrested after infant found in Canandaigua with significant bruising

CANANDAIGUA — The New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation in Canandaigua has arrested a 25-year-old man for allegedly assaulting his five-week-old infant.

Jayden Q. Mendez of Canandaigua was charged with second-degree assault and endangering the welfare of a child following an investigation into the infant’s injuries.

On March 1, investigators were assigned to a case after Ontario County Child Protective Services reported an injured infant at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.

Medical personnel determined the infant had significant bruising.

Following their investigation, authorities concluded that Mendez, the infant’s father, was responsible for the injuries.

A safety plan was established to ensure the child’s well-being.

On March 2, troopers arrested Mendez at his Canandaigua residence and transported him to the New York State Police barracks for processing.

Mendez was charged with second-degree assault, a class D felony, and endangering the welfare of a child, a class A misdemeanor.

He was taken to Ontario County Jail for CAP arraignment.
