CANANDAIGUA — New York State Police have arrested a 67-year-old Rochester man in connection with a robbery and assault at Macy’s in Eastview Mall.

Jack L. Miles was taken into custody on March 5 after allegedly stealing six winter jackets and pepper-spraying an 84-year-old female employee the previous night.

Troopers responded to Macy’s at 9:52 p.m. on March 4 after reports that a male suspect had stolen merchandise and assaulted a store employee before fleeing the scene.

Following an investigation, State Police and Ontario County Sheriff’s Deputies identified a vehicle linked to the crime and located it outside Macy’s the next day.

Miles was found inside the vehicle and arrested without incident.

He faces multiple charges including second-degree robbery, second-degree assault, and fourth-degree grand larceny.

The victim sustained injuries from the pepper spray but declined medical treatment at the scene.

Miles is being held without bail until his preliminary hearing scheduled for March 11 in Victor Town Court.
