MIDDLETOWN — A Port Jervis man was arrested Friday after allegedly attacking a hospital employee, escaping from a behavioral health unit, and making bomb threats, according to New York State Police.
Christopher M. Morgan, 40, was charged with second-degree robbery and making a terroristic threat following incidents at Garnet Health Medical Center.
Police said Morgan, a patient at the medical center, violently attacked a 74-year-old employee on Thursday and forcefully removed their hospital ID access card.
Morgan then used the stolen ID to escape from the behavioral health unit and fled the hospital on foot, authorities said.
An organized search involving the Middletown Police Department, Wallkill Police Department, and Orange County Sheriff’s Office was unsuccessful.
Morgan was located and arrested by Port Jervis Police around 291 East Main Street in Port Jervis on Friday at 11 a.m.
The suspect was also charged in connection with bomb threats made on Feb. 22, when he allegedly used a Garnet Health Medical Center phone to call in threats to several local law enforcement agencies in Orange County.
Following his arraignment in Middletown Court, Morgan was remanded to the Orange County Jail with bail set at $250,000 cash, $500,000 bond, or $750,000 partially secured bond.
