2 arrested in Auburn on drug charges after traffic stop

AUBURN — Two men were arrested on felony drug charges after a traffic stop in the early morning hours of March 7.

Officers from the Auburn Police Department observed a vehicle leaving Harley’s Pub around 2:32 a.m. and conducted a traffic stop due to a turn signal violation, according to Sgt. MeDeid.

The vehicle contained five occupants, including John P. Lombardo, 63, of Montezuma, and Brian M. Nowak, 45, of Throop.

During the stop, officers discovered Lombardo had an active bench warrant issued by Auburn City Court, leading to his removal from the vehicle and arrest.

Lombardo was found in possession of powder cocaine, a digital scale, and a significant amount of cash, police said.

Further investigation revealed Nowak was carrying multiple individually packaged quantities of powder cocaine and a significant amount of cash, resulting in his arrest as well.

Both men were transported to Auburn Police Department headquarters for processing and held for centralized arraignment.

Lombardo and Nowak each face charges of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, a class B felony, and criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fourth degree, a class C felony.

The traffic stop occurred at 162 State Street, Speedway, in Auburn.
