Olean man crashes stolen truck after police chase

OLEAN — A 27-year-old Olean man faces multiple charges after crashing a stolen truck following a police chase that ended near St. Bonaventure University early Tuesday.

Kaine D. Bunker was arrested after a brief foot pursuit when he lost control of the stolen vehicle and struck a tree near the university campus, according to Olean police.

The incident began at approximately 7:20 a.m. when an Olean patrol officer spotted a truck on S. 16th Street that had been previously reported stolen by Cuba Police.

When the officer attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver fled, driving recklessly westbound on W. State Street before attempting to turn onto E. Union Street in Allegany where he lost control.

Bunker was transported to Olean General Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

He faces multiple charges including criminal possession of stolen property, a class D felony; fleeing an officer in a motor vehicle, reckless driving, resisting arrest, and obstructing governmental administration, all class A misdemeanors.

Police said Bunker was also cited for seven vehicle and traffic violations.

Authorities said Bunker will be arraigned after his release from the hospital.
