MILFORD — Police arrested a 69-year-old New Haven man after an armed robbery at a local gas station Friday morning.
Officers responded to Patriot Fuels at 719 Boston Post Road at 10:30 a.m. Feb. 21 for a reported armed robbery.
According to police, a man wearing blue surgical gloves and a mask put a black handgun to an employee’s head and demanded money from the cash register.
The suspect fled on foot with approximately $3,000 in cash.
Officers searching the area located a white SUV matching the description of a vehicle connected to similar recent robberies in the parking lot of the Shoreline Motel adjacent to the gas station.
Police made contact with the vehicle’s owner, Samuel Carmon, 69, of 279 Bassett Street in New Haven, who was staying at the motel.
Authorities said Carmon was wearing clothing similar to the robbery suspect, including bright blue sneakers.
During the investigation, officers found cash in large denominations, surgical gloves, and masks in the glove compartment of Carmon’s vehicle.
Police seized the vehicle and other items as evidence.
Carmon was charged with first-degree robbery and held on $500,000 bond.
