EAST HAVEN — A New Haven man faces multiple charges including illegal possession of a firearm after striking a fence with his vehicle and fleeing the scene early Thursday morning.
Officers were dispatched to a Minor Road residence at approximately 4:23 a.m. after receiving reports that a vehicle had crashed into a fence and left the area.
East Haven Public Safety Dispatch advised responding officers that the vehicle was traveling northbound on Hemingway Avenue and was being followed by the homeowner who witnessed the incident.
Police located the suspect vehicle, a silver Mercedes-Benz, near Hemingway Avenue and Short Beach Road with another vehicle following behind.
The Mercedes pulled into the Dunkin’ parking lot on Hemingway Avenue, where officers made contact with the driver, identified as Yordin Roblero, 23, of Farren Avenue, New Haven.
Upon exiting the vehicle, officers observed a black and silver Taurus TPC .380 semi-automatic handgun on the front passenger-side floorboard.
Officer Chris Cameron discovered the weapon, and Officer Jayden Salgado took Roblero into custody.
The homeowner told police he had been watching television when he noticed a silver Mercedes idling in front of his home, which then struck his white fence before fleeing.
Roblero was charged with carrying a pistol without a permit, weapon in a motor vehicle, evading responsibility, and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license.
He was held on a $100,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on March 6 at G.A. 23 in New Haven.
