NORWALK — A body recovered from the Norwalk River Thursday has been identified as 35-year-old Paige Fannon of West Islip, N.Y., police said.

The discovery came after Wilton police contacted Norwalk authorities at 12:51 p.m. Thursday requesting assistance with a missing person search.

Norwalk patrol officers responded to Schenck’s Island at 202 Ridgefield Road in Wilton, where clothing and personal items belonging to an individual were found near the riverbank.

Officers believed the person had entered the rapidly flowing river, which had swelled due to heavy overnight rainfall.

Norwalk police deployed an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) to conduct an aerial search southbound along the riverbanks while additional officers and Norwalk Fire Department personnel searched on foot.

The body was located shortly thereafter in the Norwalk River near the area of Main Avenue and Grist Mill Road.

Members of the Norwalk Police Department SCUBA Team and Norwalk Fire Department recovered the body from the swift-moving water.

Fannon was pronounced dead at the scene.

Norwalk Police Detectives are continuing to investigate the incident.
