Armed man robs Groton bank, flees on foot

GROTON — A masked man armed with a handgun robbed the M&T Bank on Long Hill Road Wednesday afternoon, police said.

The suspect, described as a white male, entered the bank at 3:11 p.m. on March 5 and presented a note demanding money.

According to the Groton Town Police Department, the note was written on an envelope and informed tellers that the suspect was armed.

The man displayed what appeared to be a dark-colored semiautomatic handgun while collecting cash from two bank employees.

Police said the suspect wore a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt, dark pants, and tan boots believed to be the Herman Survivor brand.

Investigators noted the man had a wedding-style band on his left ring finger and used dark cloth material to cover his right hand.

After obtaining an undisclosed amount of cash, the suspect fled on foot from the bank located at 654 Long Hill Road.

A police K9 unit tracked the suspect to the rear of Planet Fitness before losing the trail.

No vehicles have been associated with the suspect at this time, and the weapon was not recovered.
