2 arrested in Mattapan homicide case

BOSTON — Two men have been arrested in connection with the February homicide of a 33-year-old Mattapan man, Boston police announced.

Shovan Darby, 29, of East Weymouth, was arrested at about 7:15 p.m. Thursday in the area of 4 Astoria Street by members of the Fugitive Unit, U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force, and officers from District B-3.

Darby was wanted on an outstanding warrant from Dorchester District Court for the murder of Mauricio M. Lawrence.

A second suspect, Roberto Taylor, 29, of Dorchester, was also charged with murder, unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, and carrying a loaded firearm.

Taylor is currently in custody on other charges, according to police.

The homicide occurred at approximately 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 4, when officers responded to a report of a person shot at 35 Tennis Road in Mattapan.

Officers found Lawrence suffering from a gunshot wound at the scene.

Boston EMS transported Lawrence to Boston Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The Boston Police Department’s Homicide Unit continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
