BOSTON — A 16-year-old male from Mattapan was arrested Wednesday evening on multiple firearm charges following a response to several ShotSpotter activations in Dorchester.
At approximately 6:34 p.m., officers from District B-3 (Mattapan) were dispatched to locations on Erie Street and Ellington Street after receiving an alert from ShotSpotter technology.
Upon arrival, police found a teenage victim outside 70 Ellington Street, who reported being confronted by three suspects on scooters.
The suspects allegedly fired shots at him and fled the area; the victim was not injured.
Officers collected descriptions of the suspects and information on their direction of flight, which they broadcasted to other units nearby.
While some officers processed the crime scene, other units canvassed the area.
Officers on Harvard Street toward Greenwood Street spotted two scooters at high speed, each carrying two individuals.
Attempting to stop the scooters, officers exited their cruiser.
The operator of one scooter made evasive maneuvers, causing the rear passenger to fall off.
The driver fled on foot down Harvard Street toward Norwell Street, disregarding commands to stop.
The suspect ran into a parking lot and onto train tracks before being apprehended behind 213 Norwell Street.
During the investigation, officers suspected the fleeing individual had discarded an item near Greenwood Street and Harvard Street.
A search led to the recovery of a tan-colored Canik semi-automatic firearm, which was found with an empty magazine and no rounds in the chamber.
The teenage suspect was taken into custody and faces charges in Dorchester District Court, including trespassing, carrying a firearm without a license, unlawful possession of ammunition, possession of a large capacity firearm, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling.
