Gouverneur man arrested for violating protection order, stalking

GOUVERNEUR — A Brier Hill man was arrested March 5 after allegedly stalking a protected party and violating a Family Court order of protection.

Steven A. Horton Jr., 37, was arrested at 6:58 a.m. following a suspicious vehicle complaint, according to the Gouverneur Police Department.

Police said Horton committed stalking in the 3rd degree by driving by the protected party’s residence approximately 20 times in a Mitsubishi Outlander.

The defendant then went to the front door of the victim’s residence after being advised by the protected party not to return, according to police.

Horton was charged with Criminal Contempt 2nd, Stalking 3rd and Trespass.

He was processed and arraigned in the Gouverneur Town Court before Judge Stan Young and remanded to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility on $20,000 bail/$50,000 bond.

Horton was issued a return Gouverneur Town Court date.

This is the second arrest for Horton in recent weeks.

On Feb. 22, he was arrested for allegedly forging a Community Bank check for $2,400 and cashing it.

In that incident, Horton was charged with Possession of a Forged Instrument, Grand Larceny – 4th Degree, and Resisting Arrest after he allegedly fled when informed of his arrest.
