BERLIN — A Hartford man was arrested after fleeing a traffic stop where officers later discovered a stolen firearm in his vehicle, according to Berlin police.

Pedro Santana, 20, was stopped by Berlin police at 8:24 a.m. on March 2 for misuse of a marker plate and operating an unregistered motor vehicle.

Police said Santana pulled into the Dunkin’ Donuts parking lot at 1100 Berlin Turnpike, exited his vehicle, and became uncooperative with officers’ commands.

According to authorities, Santana resisted attempts to detain him and fled on foot toward the Route 9 ramps before being apprehended after a brief pursuit.

Officers recovered a stolen firearm from the driver’s seat of Santana’s vehicle following his arrest.

Additional charges include failure to display plates, improper use of a marker plate, and failure to insure a motor vehicle.

Santana was held on $100,000 bond and arraigned at New Britain Superior Court on March 3.
