2 teens arrested after attempted car theft at Berlin elementary school

BERLIN — Two teenagers were arrested after allegedly attempting to steal a car from Hubbard Elementary School on March 5, according to police.

Berlin Police Department responded to a call from security staff at the school, located at 139 Grove St. in East Berlin, at approximately 9 a.m.

Security personnel reported observing two individuals trying to steal a vehicle from the school parking lot and provided descriptions along with their last known direction of travel.

Officers quickly located the suspects, identified as a 13-year-old male and a 15-year-old male, walking on nearby Savage Hill Road.

The 15-year-old, who is not a Berlin resident, was charged with attempted larceny of a motor vehicle, criminal mischief in the third degree, possession of burglar tools and criminal trover in the first degree.

He was remanded to the Bridgeport Juvenile Detention Facility.

The 13-year-old, also not a Berlin resident, was charged with attempted larceny of a motor vehicle, criminal mischief in the third degree and possession of marijuana under age 18.

He was remanded to the Hartford Juvenile Detention Facility.
