UTICA — Utica Police Department officers with the Crime Prevention Unit conducted a citizen stop on the 900 block of Oswego Street at approximately 11 p.m. on March 2.
During the stop, officers discovered that one individual had an outstanding warrant and subsequently took him into custody.
While conducting a search incident to the arrest, officers found a large quantity of suspected heroin in the individual’s pockets.
The suspect, identified as 29-year-old Angel Gonzalez of Utica, was then transported to the Utica Police Department.
Police confirmed that the amount of narcotics constituted a felony level offense, prompting an investigator from the Special Investigations Unit to return to work and formally charge Gonzalez.
Gonzalez faces charges that include criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, fourth degree, and seventh degree.
