1 min read

TIVERTON — Sgt. Jason Kobelecki of the Tiverton Police Department observed a silver 2008 Ford Expedition traveling south on Main Rd. near Chace Ave. on Feb. 21 at approximately 3:30 p.m.

The operator, recognized as David Souza, 36, of Tiverton, was not wearing a seatbelt.

Through previous contacts, Sgt. Kobelecki identified Souza and a law enforcement database inquiry revealed his Massachusetts driver’s license was revoked and his Rhode Island driving privileges were suspended.

A motor vehicle stop was conducted on Main Rd. at John Duggan Rd., and a police tow was dispatched to remove the vehicle.

During an inventory search, Sgt. Kobelecki located black metal knuckles in the center console.

A concealed SCT / KT Glock 43x 9mm handgun, loaded with ten rounds of ammunition, was found inside the rear map compartment of the front passenger seat.

Further investigation determined that Souza did not possess a license to carry a concealed weapon in Rhode Island or any other state, and that the gun was reported stolen out of Massachusetts.

Souza was charged with carrying a pistol without a license or permit, possession of a stolen firearm, and possession of weapons other than firearms prohibited.

He was arraigned by a Bail Commissioner at Tiverton Police Headquarters later that evening and is scheduled to appear before the Second District Court on Feb. 27.
