City of Newburgh police arrest teen in self-inflicted shooting

NEWBURGH — City of Newburgh Police responded to the area of Robinson Avenue and South Street on Jan. 27 at approximately 3 p.m. for a report of shots fired.

Officers found evidence of a shooting, including two 9-millimeter shell casings, and discovered a 14-year-old male suffering from a gunshot wound to his groin.

The case was assigned to the Non-Fatal Shooting Task Force.

During the investigation, a suspect was identified, and criminal charges were filed.

On Feb. 17, the 14-year-old male was placed under arrest and charged with felony weapons possession.

Police confirmed that the gunshot wound was self-inflicted.

The juvenile is a City of Newburgh resident.

The case was investigated by Detective Edgar and Detective Salazar, with assistance from the Orange County District Attorney’s Office Investigators.
