YONKERS — Members of the Yonkers Police Department responded to a shooting outside 1187 Yonkers Ave. late Monday morning.
Officers arrived around 11:30 a.m. after receiving a report of a male with a gunshot wound to his arm.
First responders provided medical aid and stabilized the victim at the scene.
Patrol officers soon located a suspect on Bronx River Road, apprehending him without further incident.
A Glock 9mm handgun was recovered at the scene.
The victim, identified as 36-year-old Daniel Pena of Yonkers, was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
According to initial investigations led by detectives from the Major Case Squad, the incident began as a verbal altercation on a Bee-Line Bus and escalated after both men disembarked on Yonkers Avenue.
The suspect, Levar Dimmie, 48, of Mount Vernon, allegedly fired one shot, striking Pena in the arm before fleeing on foot.
Dimmie is expected to be arraigned on Tuesday in Yonkers City Court on charges of first-degree assault and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
The case is being prosecuted by the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office, with further details to be disclosed as they become available.
