AUBURN — A New Hampshire man has been sentenced to 2.5 years at the Worcester House of Corrections, with one year to serve, following his guilty plea to charges of indecent assault and battery on a person over 14.
On May 15, detectives from the Auburn Police Department launched an investigation after a 15-year-old who had recently been reported missing alleged she was raped at a local hotel in Auburn.
On May 6, Auburn police identified the suspect as Mark Goumas, who was 58 at the time. Goumas admitted during an interview that he had picked up the victim on Southbridge St. and committed criminal acts against her at a hotel.
Goumas was arrested on charges of aggravated statutory rape with an age difference greater than 10 years and indecent assault and battery on a person over 14.
The case was recently heard in Worcester District Court, resulting in Goumas’s guilty plea and subsequent sentencing. The remainder of his sentence was suspended for three years of probation.
Upon release, Goumas must register as a sex offender as part of additional court-mandated sanctions.
