Mason police alert residents to phishing scam involving fake toll notifications

1 min read

MASON — Mason Police Department has issued a warning to residents about a phishing scam involving fraudulent text messages purporting to be from SunPass or EZ Pass.

A resident alerted the police to the scam, suggesting that others may also be receiving these deceptive messages.

The fraudulent texts claim recipients have unpaid tolls and fines, directing them to a fake website to resolve the issue.

The intent behind the scam is to extract personal and financial information from individuals.

Authorities advise residents not to click on any links from unsolicited messages and to verify any claims by contacting SunPass directly.

They caution against calling any phone numbers listed in the suspicious texts.

Police emphasize that while SunPass does contact users via email and text, it does not send official toll invoices through these means.
