ANSONIA — The Ansonia Police Department is actively investigating a street robbery that occurred outside The Spot restaurant and lounge on East Main Street.
The incident took place at approximately 11:40 p.m. on March 1.
According to a press release from the police department, the complainant reported being involved in a motor vehicle accident.
The driver of the other vehicle allegedly began yelling at him before taking his wallet and phone.
A video of the incident has surfaced on social media, prompting further investigation.
While the complainant was not injured, police are pursuing leads to identify everyone involved.
Chief Williams issued a statement urging the public to refrain from sharing the video, as it revictimizes the individual affected and sensationalizes the incident.
He emphasized that instead of recording the event, bystanders should have contacted police.
