ROME — Two men from Rome were arrested early Sunday morning following a suspicious activity complaint related to the theft and vandalism of Verizon Communication’s copper wiring.
According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert M. Maciol, the arrests took place on March 2 at approximately 1:18 a.m. near Lawrence Street.
Members of the Road Patrol Division, addressing ongoing incidents of theft and vandalism in the area, observed two males acting suspiciously on the shoulder of the roadway.
Upon conducting a citizen stop, officers discovered about 200 feet of damaged copper wiring and found the two individuals in possession of burglar tools.
The case was handed over to the Criminal Investigation Unit.
Dustyn Enslin, 35, and Antonio Gualandi, 36, were arrested and charged with several offenses, including criminal mischief in the second degree, a class D felony, attempted grand larceny in the fourth degree, a class A misdemeanor, criminal tampering in the second degree, a class A misdemeanor, and possession of burglar tools, a class A misdemeanor.
Both men were processed at the Kurt B. Wyman Law Enforcement Building and are currently being held at the Oneida County Correctional Facility, awaiting centralized arraignment.
