Springfield man arrested for breaking into businesses

SPRINGFIELD — At approximately 12:45 a.m. on Saturday, March 1, Springfield Police officers arrested 61-year-old Jose Vazquez on State Street in connection with two business break-ins.

A little after midnight, officers responded to a convenience store on the 100 block of Chestnut Street for a business alarm.

Officers discovered that the door was forcibly broken.

While officers were clearing the building, members of the Springfield Police Real-Time Analysis Center (R-TAC) informed them that they reviewed video footage and saw a suspect leaving with cash register drawers.

R-TAC analysts shared a photo of the suspect with officers and informed them he was also seen breaking into a business on the 100 block of State Street and leaving with a cash register.

Officers located the suspect, later identified as Vazquez, on the 100 block of State Street while he was holding a cash register.

Vazquez was placed under arrest.

Jose Vazquez of Springfield is charged with two counts of breaking and entering into a building at nighttime for a felony, two counts of malicious destruction of property more than $1,200, two counts of larceny under $1,200, and possession of burglarious instruments.
