Southbridge police arrest man following window-breaking incident

SOUTHBRIDGE — Police arrested a Worcester man late Saturday after he allegedly kicked and broke a window on Hamilton Street.

Officers responding to a medical call on Main Street at approximately 11:35 p.m. were alerted to the broken window nearby.

They observed shattered glass in the area and quickly gathered information from a witness who said a white male had kicked the door, breaking the window before fleeing the scene.

The witness described the suspect as appearing extremely intoxicated and advised against confronting him.

Based on the description, officers located the male suspect, identified as Scott W. Smith, 51, of 44 Temple Street, Worcester, walking on Main Street.

Smith allegedly became uncooperative and caused a disturbance, prompting officers to secure him in handcuffs and arrest him.

During processing at police headquarters, officers discovered numerous strips of suboxone on Smith.

He faces charges including destruction of real property, disturbing the peace, disorderly conduct, and possession of a class B substance subsequent offense due to prior convictions.

Smith was held on $500 cash bail and was arraigned at Dudley District Court on Monday, March 3.
