Hempstead police arrest local teenager in murder case

HEMPSTEAD — An 18-year-old Hempstead resident was arrested and charged with second-degree murder after a fatal shooting incident on Saturday.

According to Nassau County police, the homicide occurred at 12:22 p.m. at the intersection of West Graham Avenue and Peninsula Boulevard.

Officers who responded to the scene found an unresponsive male, identified as 19-year-old Jefferson J. Mancia-Fernandez, also of Hempstead, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

Mancia-Fernandez was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

Jeremias Ferrufino-Rodriguez has been charged with murder in the second degree and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree.

The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
