New Hartford police respond to Sangertown Square Mall shooting

NEW HARTFORD — The New Hartford Police Department responded to a reported shooting at Sangertown Square Mall on March 1 at about 12:45 p.m.

Upon arrival, officers entered the mall to address a potential active shooter situation and found a male victim with multiple gunshot wounds.

Security personnel had already started providing medical aid, and officers assisted.

The victim was transported to Wynn Hospital by Edwards Ambulance for treatment.

An incident command post was established, and those inside the mall were instructed to shelter in place.

The Metro SWAT Team, comprised of the Utica Police Department, New Hartford Police Department, and Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, conducted a systematic sweep and evacuation of the mall.

Initial investigation by the police confirmed that there was a single targeted victim and a single suspect involved.

There is currently no immediate threat to the public.

The investigation is ongoing and being handled by the New Hartford Police Criminal Investigation Division.

Sangertown Square Mall is set to reopen on March 2 at 11 a.m. for normal operations.
