BRUNSWICK — Three suspects from New York were arrested Monday afternoon after allegedly stealing thousands of dollars worth of merchandise from a Hannaford supermarket in Brunswick.

According to Brunswick Police, officers responded at 12:04 p.m. Monday after a Hannaford loss prevention team member reported several individuals actively stealing over-the-counter medications and beauty products from the Elm Street store.

Police quickly located a vehicle carrying three suspects a short distance from the store.

Officers took into custody Angie Cubillos, 24; Alan Rodriguez, 38; and Marlene Santaella, 29, all of New York.

Investigators, working with Hannaford loss prevention staff, determined that the three suspects allegedly participated in an organized retail theft operation and had also targeted other retail outlets in Maine.

During a search of the suspects’ vehicle, officers discovered merchandise valued at approximately $32,000.

All three suspects were charged with theft by receiving stolen property and theft by unauthorized taking or transfer, both Class C felonies.

Rodriguez and Cubillos were also found to have outstanding fugitive from justice warrants from California and New Jersey for similar crimes and were subsequently held without bail.

Santaella’s bail was set at $1,500 cash.

All three were taken to the Cumberland County Jail.

Police say the investigation remains active.
