RIVERHEAD — New York State Police arrested a Riverhead man on Tuesday in connection with the sexual abuse of a minor over a four-month period, authorities said.
Edgar Nova Lopez, 29, was charged with first-degree sexual conduct, a B felony, and first-degree sex abuse, a D felony, following an investigation by the State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
The investigation began on Dec. 13 when State Police received a Child Abuse Referral initiated by a doctor performing a routine annual physical on the female minor.
The child disclosed to the doctor that she had been sexually abused by an adult male, later identified as Nova Lopez, police said.
Police determined that Nova Lopez, a family friend of the victim, made the minor watch pornography and perform acts depicted in the videos.
He also allegedly touched the minor inappropriately and had the child perform sexual acts, according to investigators.
Nova Lopez was arraigned in Riverhead Town Court and given a bail amount of $150,000 cash, a $300,000 partially secured bond, or an $800,000 fully secured bond.
He was remanded to Yaphank Correctional Facility and is scheduled to appear in court again at 9 a.m. on Feb. 28.
