Missing 3-year-old boy found dead in Mamaroneck River

MAMARONECK — Officers from the Village of Mamaroneck Police Department responded to a call about a missing 3-year-old boy on Thursday afternoon.

The child had left his residence at approximately 12:12 p.m. with his dog.

His 54-year-old uncle and 85-year-old grandfather attempted to locate him without success.

At around 2:28 p.m., police officers and detectives canvassed the area and discovered the child in the Mamaroneck River near the Hillside Avenue Bridge.

The child was removed from the water by officers and pronounced dead at the scene by Mamaroneck EMS.

The Westchester County Medical Examiner’s Office arrived at the scene and took possession of the body.

Investigators determined that the child had likely fallen into the river near First Street, which is approximately two blocks from his home, and was carried downstream.

The Westchester County District Attorney’s Office has been notified and is assisting with the investigation.

The investigation remains ongoing.
