BROOKFIELD — A two-vehicle collision on Interstate 89 southbound resulted in multiple injuries shortly before 10 a.m. on Feb. 28.

According to authorities, the crash occurred near Mile Post 39.8 while emergency services were managing traffic from an unrelated incident.

A Freightliner flatbed wrecker, driven by Tyson Wescot, 21, of Wilder, failed to follow the traffic control directions set by emergency personnel and rear-ended a Subaru Outback.

The Subaru, operated by Gerard Peters, 75, of Albany, was totaled in the collision.

The wrecker then struck a parked Brookfield Fire Engine and came to rest in the median, alongside the pushed Subaru.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts and, along with other occupants, were transported to Central Vermont Medical Center for evaluation.

Vermont State Police received assistance from several agencies, including the Vermont Agency of Transportation and local fire and police departments.

Authorities urge anyone with information regarding the incident to contact Trooper Farnum-Boylan at the Vermont State Police.
