Waterville deputy’s traffic stop leads to drug, theft charges

WATERVILLE — A deputy from the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man on drug and theft charges following a traffic stop Feb. 25 in the village.

According to Sheriff Robert Maciol, the deputy conducted the stop at 3:09 p.m.

During the investigation, authorities found a cell phone on a nearby sidewalk that had been thrown from the vehicle.

The phone was later reported stolen by a victim in the town of Sangerfield.

Anthony Case, 31, of Utica, was arrested, and deputies subsequently found a quantity of cocaine in his possession.

Case was taken to the Kurt B. Wyman Law Enforcement Building and charged with third-degree criminal tampering, fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and petit larceny.

He was issued appearance tickets and several uniform traffic tickets for Sangerfield and Waterville at a later date.
