GENESEO — A Hunt, New York, man has been arrested on a felony grand larceny charge following an investigation by the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Thomas J. Dougherty said Zachary Pruonto, 39, was taken into custody Feb. 25 after an investigation into a complaint filed in October.

Deputies responded Oct. 22 to a report of grand larceny at a residence in the town of Mount Morris.

The victim told investigators they had hired Genesee Valley Exteriors, owned by Pruonto, to perform a siding job on their home.

The victim signed a contract with the company and paid Pruonto $12,000, but the company never arrived to complete the work.

After repeated attempts to contact Pruonto failed, the victim called the sheriff’s office.

Investigator Martin Herkimer located Pruonto in Hunt and arrested him on an arrest warrant for felony grand larceny in the third degree.

Pruonto was transported to the Livingston County Jail for arrest processing and pre-arraignment detention.

He was later arraigned at the Livingston County Centralized Arraignment Part before Village of Geneseo Justice Bushnell, who released him on his own recognizance.

The charges against Pruonto do not qualify for bail under New York state’s bail reform laws.

The Livingston County Public Defender’s Office represented Pruonto at arraignment, and the Livingston County District Attorney’s Office appeared for the prosecution.

Members of the sheriff’s Criminal Investigations Division and Patrol Division assisted in the investigation.
