ALBANY — A 20-year-old man was arrested in connection with a fatal stabbing that occurred in June on Washington Avenue, police said.

Fabian Martinez-Reyes was taken into custody Wednesday morning in Port Jefferson, New York, by members of the Albany Police Department and the United States Marshals Task Force.

The charges stem from a June 3 incident when police were alerted around 3:40 a.m. after a Mohawk Ambulance crew was flagged down near Washington Avenue and Quail Street by a 25-year-old man who had been stabbed.

While officers assisted the victim, another person approached them and reported that an individual was unconscious on the 400 block of Washington Avenue.

Officers arrived at that location and found 24-year-old Abel Vasques-Bautista with multiple stab wounds.

Both victims were treated at the scene and transported to Albany Medical Center Hospital, where Vasques-Bautista was pronounced dead.

Martinez-Reyes has been charged with second-degree murder and first-degree gang assault.

He was arraigned in Albany City Criminal Court and remanded to the Albany County Jail.
