Police pursuit ends in two arrests in Lockport

CAMBRIA — A man and woman were arrested Monday night after a police pursuit that began in Cambria and ended in Lockport, according to the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office.

At 8:36 p.m., Deputy Pino observed a gray Chevrolet pickup truck on Upper Mountain Road with an equipment violation.

The vehicle was also identified as a suspect vehicle in multiple hit-and-run accidents in Lockport and Amherst.

The deputy attempted to stop the vehicle on Lockport Junction Road, but the driver failed to yield and fled southbound before heading east on Saunders Settlement Road into Lockport.

The pursuit continued through the city, during which the driver intentionally struck two Niagara County Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicles, causing damage.

The chase ended on East Avenue near the former Eastern Niagara Hospital building.

Deputies took the driver, Elexus J. Rodriguez-Raines, 26, of Lockport, into custody after she complied with orders.

The passenger, Shawn K. Pittler, 36, also of Lockport, was arrested after resisting, authorities said.

Rodriguez-Raines was charged with two counts of second-degree criminal mischief, third-degree unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, second-degree obstruction of governmental administration, resisting arrest, reckless driving, and multiple vehicle and traffic violations.

She was taken to the Niagara County Jail for arraignment and will be transferred to Lockport on two unrelated controlled substance warrants.

Pittler was charged with second-degree obstruction of governmental administration and resisting arrest.

He was also held at the Niagara County Jail for arraignment.
