Montpelier police arrest wrong-way driver on I-89 for DUI, eluding officers

MONTPELIER — Vermont State Police arrested a Montpelier woman early Tuesday after she allegedly drove the wrong way on Interstate 89, attempted to elude officers, and was found to be under the influence.

Police received multiple reports at 1:06 a.m. of a vehicle traveling south in the northbound lane of I-89 in Montpelier.

The vehicle passed several other cars and police cruisers with emergency lights activated before coming to a stop after hitting spike strips deployed by law enforcement.

Authorities identified the driver as Carole Brown, 57, of Montpelier.

She was taken into custody and transported to the Vermont State Police Berlin barracks for processing.

Brown was cited to appear in Vermont Superior Court Washington Criminal Division to face charges of gross negligent operation, attempting to elude, and DUI.
