Lowell, MA police negotiate peaceful surrender after domestic violence standoff

LOWELL — Troopers responded to a 911 call reporting a domestic violence incident at a residence on West Old Main Road at approximately 4 p.m. Sunday.

Officers assisted the female caller to safety while her husband, 55-year-old Andrew York of Lowell, remained inside and refused to come out.

Troopers maintained a presence at the scene and attempted to establish contact with York.

At approximately 2:30 p.m. Monday, the Maine State Police Tactical Team and Crisis Negotiation Team arrived to assist.

By 4:30 p.m., negotiators secured York’s peaceful surrender.

York was arrested without incident and transported to a local hospital for evaluation.

Once released, he will be taken to the Penobscot County Jail, where he will be charged with domestic violence-related offenses.

No injuries were reported.

The investigation remains ongoing.
