SCHENECTADY — Schenectady police arrested a 14-year-old student after he allegedly threatened another student on Snapchat, authorities said.
The Schenectady Police Department was notified at approximately 11:30 p.m. Feb. 22 by Schenectady School District administrators that a student at Washington Irving School had been threatened by another student.
Officers contacted the 14-year-old victim and his family and determined that the suspect had threatened to bring a gun to school and kill him following a dispute earlier in the week, police said.
Youth Aid Bureau detectives interviewed the suspect and his family before charging him with aggravated harassment in the second degree, a class A misdemeanor.
No gun was found during the investigation, and police said there is no indication of additional threats to student safety.
Police are continuing to work with Schenectady School District administrators regarding the incident.
Due to the suspect’s age, authorities did not release further identifying information.
